FAQs

Can you provide a free quote?

Yes.  Please fill in some general details for your badge or patch at our Quotes Page here

Can you help with the design and artwork for my badge?

Yes. We can offer recommendations about how to take your idea or image and transform it into a badge. We have over 15 years’ experience in designing and making badges and patches. We are also an end-user of badges so have knowledge of what type of badge would be best for your needs.

Is there a minimum order size?

No. However, the larger your order, the cheaper the unit price. Belgique Badges has made orders between 1 and 5,000 units. There is no maximum order size.

Woven and embroidered badges – what is the difference?

Woven badges are made by weaving together fine threads, while embroidered badges or patches are made by stitching thicker threads onto a piece of fabric. Because embroidered threads are thicker and are stitched onto a piece of fabric, the effect is that the stitching has a raised feel. Woven badges have thinner threads which enable a tighter weave so there can be more detail in the artwork. Woven threads also provide cleaner lines and a flatter appearance. Overall, embroidered badges / patches are suitable for who want a ‘classic’ look, while woven badges best suit those who would like detailed and high images. The adjacent picture of New Zealand Flag badges has a woven example on the left and an embroidered one on the right.

How long does it take for a typical order to be manufactured?

3-4 weeks is the usual length of time for manufacture and delivery.  It can be sooner if the artwork or design is already finalised.  Completed orders can delivered, collected or posted/couriered.

Do I need to pay a deposit for my order?

We ask for a deposit on most orders, usually $100 plus GST. However, if you are a school, government department, community group or repeat customer then no deposit is required. The final amount is invoiced once the badges have been manufactured and are ready to be sent to you.

Can you make us a sample?

A sample badge is made before production of your full order. An image of or the actual sample will be sent to you for your approval. Belgique Badges guarantees to remake your badges / patches if you are not satisfied with the finished product.

Can my badge or patch have Velcro or iron-on backing

Yes.  These backings give you an alternative to sewing a badge or patch onto a garment.  Depending on the size and shape of your badge, the extra cost of Velcro or iron-on backing doesn’t increase the unit price by much.

What types of border can my badge be made with?

The picture alongside shows three different types of borders for badges / patch: laser cut, hot cut and merrowed (overlocked).  A merrowed border is the most common type of binding.  Badges with unusual shapes often have laser cut or hot cut borders.

The badge making process

Here’s how we take your important image and transform it into a badge / patch:

1. Fill out the Quote Form. We need to know the quantity, size and material of your badge. If you have a design or sketch, please also include or send it to us at this stage. JPEG, TIFF, PDF and AI are some of the common formats of images which are OK. Please also let us know when you need the badges.

2. We’ll promptly get in touch and provide you with a quote. We often include recommendations associated with the design.

3. You approve the quote.

4. We create or adjust the artwork for your approval. At this point a deposit is asked for to cover the set-up and other initial costs.

5. You approve the artwork.

6. We produce a sample badge and send you the image or actual sample for approval. Further changes to the design after a sample badge is made would incur additional costs. (Adjusting colours don’t attract an additional charge).

7. You approve the sample badge / patch.

8. We manufacture of your order.

9. We dispatch your order to you and send you the (final) invoice.
